Flowers and the single gal…
Let’s face it — no girl wants to abandon her glass of champagne, depart from her friends at the table, and stand idly on the dance floor while some judgmental DJ or bandleader points out that yes, she is indeed single and yes, she is about a decade older than the others joining her. The bouquet toss is so deeply rooted in tradition that its history goes all the way back to the Victorian ages, when the bride tossed her bouquet to a friend as she left her wedding reception. The tradition was intended to keep her friend safe, to ward off evil spirits, and to offer luck. Why not bestow a little luck on your dear, cute friend who has been making eyes with the bartender all night? Try handing the bouquet to her privately, letting her know how important she is to you. Or send the blooms to a close friend who was unable to attend.
Can’t decide whom to honor? After explaining the Victorian tradition, present a stem from your bouquet to your mom, mother-in-law, and each of your bridesmaids. What a tasteful way to honor their commitment and show your appreciation. Being demure is always classy.
